Quantum Leap is an American science fiction television series that premiered on NBC on March 26, 1989, and ran for five seasons, ending on May 5, 1993. The fifth and final season of Quantum Leap aired from September 22, 1992, to May 5, 1993.
Season 5 consists of a total of 22 episodes, with the series finale being a two-part episode titled "Mirror Image", which aired on May 5, 1993.
In this season, Dr. Sam Beckett (played by Scott Bakula) continues to "leap" into different people's bodies in different time periods, aiming to correct historical mistakes and ultimately find a way to leap back to his own time and his own body. However, this season also reveals some new information about Sam’s mysterious project supervisor, Admiral Al Calavicci (played by Dean Stockwell), and the possibility that Sam's leaps may not be entirely random.
Throughout the season, Sam "leaps" into the bodies of a space shuttle astronaut, a beauty pageant contestant, a Vietnam veteran, and even his own great-grandfather. The final two-part episode, "Mirror Image", sees Sam leaping to a mysterious location where he finally meets his project supervisor Al. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Sam questioning his own identity and whether he has truly been leaping through time or if it has all been a figment of his imagination.
Despite its popularity, the show was ultimately cancelled after its fifth season due to financial issues and declining ratings. However, Quantum Leap has since gained a cult following and is considered a classic of science fiction television.
